We Gather to Worship God
Celebration and Recommitment to the Justice in a Changing Climate Initiative
Resolution adopted by Congregational Meeting May 2007.
The congregation resolves…
That CUCC take as a congregational focus for the near future “Justice in a Changing Climate.”
That we lead by learning and acting.
In particular, that we educate ourselves; change our practices;
And provide an interfaith religious focal point and leadership on climate change and advocacy.

Call to Worship (Follow along silently)
With your help, God,
we will lead by learning and acting.
We carry in our hearts and minds your precious creation,
especially those people with limited resources who will be harmed by climate change.
We promise to educate ourselves,
to change our practices, and
to work with people of all faiths and no faith to advocate creative responses to climate change.

*Hymn “God Reigns O’er All the Earth” #21
Hebrew Scripture and Children’s Message Excerpts from Genesis 1:1-28
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.
And God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.”
God called the dry ground “land,” and the gathered waters he called “seas.”
Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it…”
And God said, “Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years…”
God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. God also made the stars.
And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the vault of the sky.”
So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living thing with which the water teems and that moves about in it …and every winged bird …
God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth.
And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures …
God made the wild animals …, the livestock …, and all the creatures that move along the ground …
And God saw that it was good.
Then God said, “Let us make humans in our image, in our likeness, so that they may (be responsible for) the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, the livestock and all the wild animals, and all the creatures that move along the ground.”
God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and (use it wisely).”
After the story, 4 year olds through 12th grade leave as we sing this song of blessing:
Go now in peace, go now in peace, may the love of God surround you,
everywhere, everywhere you may go.

Epistle Reading James 2:14-17
What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them?
Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food.
If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?
In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.
