Earth Day Sunday Service at Unitarian Church of Belfast and Window Dressers
Frank Mundo, co-founder of WindowDressers an organization that builds thermal window inserts that reduce residential heating costs between 10 and 25% and has developed a program that has brought more than 100 volunteers together at Community Builds in Rockland, Liberty, Belfast, Islesboro and Peaks Island. WindowDressers has built windows for 300 families who will, over the next ten years save $1,048,880 (thats an average of $4,195 each) in money they don’t spend on heating fuel. Total cost of the windows – which is the materials involved is $51,550. All labor has been volunteer to build the inserts and to install and remove the inserts over their expected lifetime of ten years. That’s quite a return on investment. $200 – $300, payback is $4,000.
Earth Day is not about saving money but saving the earth our home. This service is to speak to the larger aspects – the Why of WindowDressers which is ultimately the Why of our volunteers rather than the What or How. Window Dressers was one of the Interfaith Power & Light 2012 Cool Congregations winners. Come and find out why!
