The Human Element  This film, offered by Interfaith Power & Light as part of “Faith Action Week,” focuses on the present impacts of climate change on people across the U.S.  It is available for free online viewing now through April 26.

“In an arresting new documentary from the producers of Racing Extinction and Chasing Ice, environmental photographer James Balog captures the lives of everyday Americans on the front lines of climate change. With rare compassion and heart, The Human Element relays captivating stories from coast-to-coast, inspiring us to reevaluate our relationship with the natural world. Thanks to a partnership with Earth Vision Film, Interfaith Power & Light is able to offer you this inspiring film. It’s a must see for people of faith concerned about the impact of climate change on human life in the United States.”

To see the trailer and get information on how to view this film and click on the button that says “Sign up here to view the movie on-line.”

Thursday, April 23, 7 pm.  Join us for a virtual discussion of the film “The Human Element”. Join us for a ZOOM discussion on the film on April 23rd at 7:00 p.m. ET!

“From the Ashes” is a documentary film that chronicles the struggles of communities across the country to deal with the impacts of the coal industry, and what the future should look like. This event will feature an online streaming of the film, followed by a virtual panel discussion afterward. Stay tuned for further details on the Knoxville Chapter’s Facebook Page.

Check back here for the Zoom link and be thinking about what you might share for your 30 second to 1-minute contribution to the event. Let’s come together online to honor this milestone moment!

April 22-25, 2020

The Festival of Faiths presents “A Decade in Retrospect,” streaming on YouTube

Because we remain physically distant amid this global pandemic, the Festival of Faiths has curated a digital retrospective to enjoy from the safety of your home. This virtual retrospective will tap into the treasuries of wisdom from diverse faith traditions, revisiting rich Festival content from the past decade. Through spiritual practices, insightful dialogue, music, film and more, we will gather online to explore themes including: SACRED EARTH, COMPASSION, FAITH IN ACTION, SILENCE AND CONTEMPLATION.

April 18-25, 2020

Follow, share, and like our Nashville Chapter’s Nashville Chapter – TN Interfaith Power & Light Facebook page.  Starting this Saturday evening (April 18), we will be posting videos of prayers, sacred readings, reflections, songs, comedy, photos, etc. from TIPL members and friends of many religious traditions related to care for the Earth.  Check each day of Earth Week to see the latest posts.

In Knoxville, let’s celebrate Earth Day!  To find links to virtual events, please go to Knoxville Chapter’s Facebook Page. There are several wonderful opportunities here, from free film events and panel discussions to education opportunities and a virtual Earth Day Rally.  One activity we’d like to highlight is the Art Challenge.  This is an effort to engage children (and adults) in generating art to celebrate Earth Day.  It’s pretty simple, and the guidelines are available on the page.  There are prizes for pre-K through Grade 12 artists!

April 25-27, 2020

“Earth Day Live”  This 72-hour event is sponsored by the young people of the U.S. Climate Strike movement and cosponsored by dozens of environmental organizations, including Interfaith Power & Light.  It will feature presentations and music.  Speakers/musicians include:  Al Gore, Bill McKibben, Questlove, Rev. William Barber II, Stacey Abrams, and many more.  There will also be time slots where the content will be local from Nashville. RSVP at the link above to receive information on viewing.
