Erev Shabbat Service on February 14th to Link Liturgy with Music of Pete Seeger

Posted on February 6, 2014 by The Little Minyan

Pete Seeger, of blessed memory, was a man who gave voice to ideals at the heart of many religious traditions and most certainly spoke to our Jewish values of  communal responsibility, justice, and environmental stewardship.  His death, earlier this month, brought great sadness to our little kehilla as well as a desire to celebrate “Reb” Pete’s life, work, and impact.  In that spirit, we will use his music to enliven our Erev Shabbat worship on Friday, February 14th, weaving the themes of the liturgy and folk music together in tribute to this extraordinary human being and the values he held dear throughout his long and productive life.

One of Pete Seeger’s most fervent desires was for us to care more deeply for the earth we share and for that care to motive tikkun/repair. Fittingly, February 14-16 is also the weekend chosen by Interfaith Power & Light for clergy around the country to enlisting faith communities in environmental stewardship to combat climate change.  Througheducation, advocacy, and the promotion of energy conservation, energy efficiency, and renewable energy, Interfaith Power & Light affiliates around the country are addressing climate change and demonstrating the confluence of science and religion. From this perspective, the Little Minyan, in cooperation with Ohio IP&L, will consider the earth’s ecosystems and our role in safeguarding the health of our planet.

All are welcome to join us for worship at 7:30 p.m. in our space at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 2070 Ridgecliff Road, Columbus, 43221.pete and the hudson
