Faith Leaders Earth Day Breakfast
Co-hosted by the Rev. Kathleen Patton at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church and Earth Ministry/WAIPL, this is a chance for the religious community of Cowlitz County and our neighbors to gather and enjoy good coffee, a hearty breakfast, and friendship in our shared commitment to protecting local ecosystems and God’s creation.
This year, our faith voice is particularly important because the threat of climate disruption becomes more menacing as we watch glaciers melt and fires grow larger and more frequent in our state. Last year, Pope Francis sent a letter to all people of goodwill on Earth called Laudato Si’, in which he articulates with grace and passion the importance of a moral and spiritual approach to climate protection.
In the Northwest, our urgent responsibility is to keep fossil fuels in the ground and out of our shared atmosphere. At our breakfast, Rev. Patton will lead us in a prayer and brief reflection on the original gift of creation. Jessie Dye of Earth Ministry will give a very short review of what the Pope’s encyclical means to our region, and our friends from Columbia River Keeper will provide an update on the proposed Longview coal export terminal and upcoming hearings.
We hope you can join us for Longview’s first annual Faith Leaders Earth Day Breakfast!
