Pittsfield, Maine – The First Universalist Church of Pittsfield will take part in the National Preach-In on Climate Change this Sunday, February 16 at 9:45am. The service will celebrate the gift of the earth and its fragility, and address faith in action.
The Sunday service coincides with the 30th day of the Unitarian Universalist Thirty Days of Love, a period of intentional action, education, and reflection that focuses on speaking out against oppression among people united in the belief that love is the ultimate guiding force of our world. The Thirtieth Day culminates with “Faith in Action.”
What some call love for creation, the Unitarian Universalists call their 7th Principle: respect for the interdependent web of all existence. Sunday’s celebratory service will celebrate and address our awe and gratitude for the earth juxtaposed with the dynamic human tension of being both the problem and the solution to the environmental crises we experience. The service will be followed by coffee hour in which individuals can sign postcards in support of the EPA’s proposed carbon safeguards for power plants.
Reverend Margaret Beckman, Reverend Julianne Bousquet, and lay leader Holly Zadra will conduct the service at the First Universalist Church of Pittsfield on the corner of Main and Easy streets.
