Participants in the Baha’i-inspired Junior Youth Spiritual Empowerment Program in Pierce County are invited to come together for a Junior Youth Summit on Climate Change. From Friday the 14th through Sunday the 16th we will be holding and overnight camp for those aged 12-15 participating in the program’s groups.  Activities during the camp will include:

-Neighborhood Clean-up in Eastside, Tacoma
-Community Friendship Gathering and Service Project Fundraiser in Salishan, Tacoma
-Glass Recycling Project in Kitsap and Fox Island, Gig Harbor
-Nature hike
-Nature Awareness Arts Projects (e.g. Nature Photography, Recycled Crafts, Nature Painting, Natural Materials Collage)
-Dawn Prayers
-Star gazing
-Memorization of Writings concerning the environment

Together, with the help of youth and adults trained through the Institute Courses developed by the Baha’i Faith’s community to aid in the building of individual capacity to serve one’s community, the junior youth participating in the Summit will study materials on Climate Change found here: https://www.faithclimateactionweek.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/Guide_Bahai.pdf as well as excerpts from texts their group studies in the program concerning the harmony of science and religion and their age group’s contributions to the progress of their community.

Throughout the Summit, they will reflect on their efforts to improve their community’s interaction with the natural environment and consult on how to continue to help their community advance materially and spiritually.
