The Urgency of Now

Tri-State Creation Care 2020 Conference

A Celebration of the Gift of Creation

Keynote:

Rev. Brooks Berndt, Minister for Environmental Justice, United Church of Christ

Martin Luther King, Jr. spoke of the “fierce urgency of now”. The present time is one of crisis – a crisis continually made evident by burning forests and severe weather events throughout the world. The time for action has to be now. Faith communities are uniquely suited to respond. Our values, our theologies, our sacred stories, our ability to tend to grief and heartache, our active and support- ive communities – all of these gifts we can bring to bear in confronting the dire situation before us. In his keynote, Rev. Berndt will lead us in discerning how faith communities can best equip themselves spiritually and practically to make a vital difference.

Including: Hope from Our Faith Traditions
Youth leaders will offer a brief reflection on their vision and hope for a healed planet.

Breakout sessions:

The Time for Action

Rev. Berndt will build on his keynote talk and lead a discussion on how to move congrega- tions towards living out a greater creation care ethic.

Solar Energy for Home and Church

Pete Lenzen from Solar Indiana Renewable En- ergy Network (SIREN) will present on the possi- bilities of installing a solar system at home and church.

The Soil Web

The soil teams with billions of organisms with a very special role. This web supports all plant life and really all of life. Charlie Stocker, “The Garden Guy”, will explain how it works and what it has to do with creation care.

Climate Change and You

Kenzie Paul, a senior at Mt. Vernon H.S., will demonstrate “En-Roads” a climate simulation tool that informs participants of the effects that climate change will have on their lives.

Tri-State Creation Care is a coalition of people of faith dedicated to encouraging the care of our Earth and its resources.
