With President Obama’s inaugural address, climate change is finally on the table for discussion. But are we too late with what will probably be too little, due to the recalcitrance of congress to act on any important issues? Average temperatures in the Arctic region are rising twice as fast as they are elsewhere in the world. The area of permanent ice cover is contracting at a rate of 9 percent each decade. If this trend continues, summers in the Arctic could become ice-free by the end of the century. If it’s that warm in the Arctic, will Florida be habitable? Even if we were able to take action right now–today–we would still have to do a lot of adapting in order to live comfortably and safely.
