Tree Planting with Children especially along streams near their child care centres and schools, including prayers and songs
Last year, 700 trees were planted at 45 child care centres and schools, including First Nations aboriginal centres. Success by 6 and barbecue fundraisers supported the tree purchases and distribution by volunteer early childhood educators. This year, the hope is to focus on planting riparian vegetation along streams by each interested centre adopting a stream nearby their school or centre. Focus on the health of streams and watersheds assists climate issues because water vapour in the atmosphere is very important. Keeping the streams in proper functioning condition assists water, trees and climate balance. The link with Faith communities is that the initiators of this project are motivated by their love of the sacred Writings of their Christian and Baha’i faiths. Songs and prayerful writings are offered at the tree planting events. Canada’s Aboriginal First Nations elders always start events with prayers to honour the land.
